Skills Development for Increasing Accessibility of Agriculture Machinery

This year Senaki Community Education Centre (CEC), which was founded by dvv international in 2010 in the framework of the EU-funded project: Support to Socio-economic integration of IDPs in Samegrelo- Zemo Svaneti region offered trainings for tractor drivers in two stages: a total of 76 listeners from municipalities of Abasha,  Akhmeta, Senaki, Chkorotsku, Kaspi, Khobi, Mestia, Martvili, Tsalendjikha, Poti and Zugdidi participated and were accommodated in the guesthouses during the training period.

Schedule of theoretical and practical trainings were developed by the project manager with 7 hours study a day. Comfortable classrooms of Senaki CEC with its well-equipped computer laboratory offered convenient atmosphere for learning.

Senaki CEC provided demo posters, books on traffic rules and examination tests which, together with demo CDs were given to the listeners as a gift. Brochures describing modern agricultural machinery and instructions were available for the trainees. Computer lab was available to them in the evenings for self-assessment and improving their knowledge. Instructors provided consulting to the participants according to the set schedule.

Intermediate and final exams and tests with combined assessment methods were used for assessing participants’ knowledge.

Practical trainings of driving were conducted on the territory near the CEC on the tractors JOHN DEER, NEW HOLAND and BELORUS provided by Abasha branch of Mechanizatori Ltd. The practice was conducted individually, using practical exercises and instructing while working.

After completing theoretical and practical trainings, practical agricultural works started. Each participant was allocated 5 hours of practice work. They performed various agricultural works under supervision of instructors such as plowing, harrowing, cultivation, sowing, as well as work to clean up the field.

Course participants trained in CEC took exams and obtained tractor operator's license (category T).  Pleased to note that most of the new tractor drivers have already found a job.
